“Melancholia”, CD Review by Brenda Carol

Among the incredible heap of great Canadian women singer/songwriters Janine Stoll stands tall. Her company is steep: Joni Mitchell, Alanis Morrisette, Sarah Mclachlan, Sienna Dahlen and kd Lang. And although Stoll's songs seem to come from some sorted, sorrowful place on her 4th independent release, "Melancholia", Stoll holds the songs together like tiny, threads of breath, defining the magic of words and song captured in time. Her lyrical glimpses give us just an inkling of how powerful and passionate her voice really is. In listening to this cd one can envision a very, dynamic, live performance.

With Stoll's determination she can exude confidence, pride, honour, respect, dignity, sadness all in a few, healthy notes - a marvelous intensity really! Stoll's sheer integrity shining through each song. Stoll's story-songs help us to believe in what she is feeling. Creating a listening empathy for her tales. The stars are very bright for this young songstress!
